**  REFERENCE LIBRARIAN -- CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT (PART-TIME)  **

The Wellesley Free Library is seeking a fun, flexible, and fearless part-time (16 hours/week) Children’s Reference Librarian to provide high quality library service to children, young teens, parents, teachers, and caregivers.  Under the supervision of the Children’s Services Supervisor, duties will include reference desk service; extensive reader advisory; children’s materials selection; and developing/implementing STEM, early literacy, outreach and enrichment programs for children from birth through grade 8.  Saturday and evening hours required.

The hourly rate is $26.18 and the position is not benefit eligible.

Requires: MLS; one to three years of reference experience; in-depth knowledge of collection development; demonstrated knowledge of effective children’s services techniques; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong customer service skills; and excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, Internet searches and software specific to libraries.

** TREE CLIMBER **

The Wellesley Department of Public Works, Park and Tree Division, is currently seeking a Tree Climber. Reporting to the Foreman and/or Lead Tree Climber, the Tree Climber performs all kinds of tree care including planting, pruning, fertilizing, bark tracing, pest control, hazardous electric line pruning, tree removal and other operations involving rigging.  The ability to rope climb and work in trees is essential. The position requires the incumbent to work outdoors in all weather conditions, in high and precarious places, and in the immediate vicinity of electric lines; to participate in the Town’s snow and ice control program; and to be available for stand-by, emergency and weekend duties as required.  The incumbent performs tasks for other divisions and Town departments when needed.
  
 One to three years experience in the tree care industry with Knowledge of trees and shrubs, of how plants are affected by urban and suburban conditions, of agriculture-related trades such as landscaping, arboriculture, and forestry, and of electric line clearance.  Within six months of obtaining this position, or current possession of the following certifications/licenses:  Massachusetts Class B CDL; Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer’s License 1B and 2B; Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator’s License; CPR and First Aid Certification; and completion of Electrical Hazards Awareness Program (EHAP) training.  Familiarity with applicable laws, regulations and standards including, but not limited to, Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 87 and American National Standards Institute ANSI Z133.1 pertaining to tree care and electric line clearance operations.

**  PROJECTS ASSISTANT  **

Due to continued growth and organizational improvements, the Town of Wellesley’s Facilities Maintenance Department (FMD) has an opening for a full-time Projects Assistant.  The ideal candidate will have significant administrative experience in the public sector.  The incumbent is the primary administrative support staff for the Design and Construction group within the FMD.  The FMD manages twenty-nine buildings totaling over 1.2 million square feet, with a staff of 68 and an operating budget of over $7.5 million.  The FMD has a robust capital construction program with a FY 18 cash-capital budget of approximately $2M and many major capital projects in construction or planning stages, including three new or renovated schools estimated to cost over $100M.

Reporting to the Design and Construction Manager (DCM), the Projects Assistant’s primary responsibility is to provide administrative support for all aspects of designer selection, design and construction for capital building projects.  The incumbent assists the DCM and Project Managers in providing day-to-day support to the Permanent Building Committee.

The work requires frequent interaction with other Town/School employees, vendors and contractors, and the general public, and good interpersonal and communication skills.  The incumbent must obtain a thorough knowledge of Wellesley’s organizational structure.

Hourly rate of pay is $23.38 - $29.10, DOQ.

Minimum Requirements:  Associate’s Degree in Business, Liberal Arts or related field, or equivalent experience.  Five years of administrative experience in an office environment.  Proficient computer skills, including thorough knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.  Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills and basic bookkeeping skills.  Familiarity with applicable Massachusetts General Laws and state procurement laws.  Ability to work effectively as a peer with board members and department heads, with minimum supervision.

**  PROJECT MANAGER  **

The Project Manager reports to the Design & Construction Manager and works on all aspects of project management, from project inception at the feasibility study phase through design and construction.  The incumbent is tasked with delivering the highest quality construction at competitive prices, while considering life-cycle costs and sustainability.  The incumbent ensures that goals and needs of the Town’s Permanent Building Committee (PBC) and FMD customers are met on their projects, and that they are provided with relevant and appropriate communication throughout the life of the project.

Minimum Requirements:  Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an accredited college or university.  Seven to ten years’ experience designing and managing building projects and familiarity with Massachusetts procurement laws.  Licensed Massachusetts architect and Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official (MCPPO) certification for Design and Construction Contracting preferred.  Anticipated hiring range is $79,000 - $97,000.

**  EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT  **

The Town of Wellesley has a full-time opening for an Executive Assistant in the Selectmen’s Office.  The Executive Assistant performs a variety of administrative and secretarial tasks to support the Executive Director of General Government Services (Executive Director) and to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of his/her office.  The incumbent also provides secretarial services to members of the Board of Selectmen.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Executive Assistant’s primary responsibility is the administrative management of the Executive Director’s Office that requires developing and refining office routines and independently carrying out assignments to completion.  The incumbent informs the Executive Director of matters requiring his/her attention, foresees the Executive Director's requirements for action on matters and acts accordingly, and anticipates and accomplishes office tasks with a minimum of supervision.  Directions are received in the form of general outlines with detailed instructions provided only in unprecedented situations.  The incumbent interacts with the public, safeguards confidential materials and information, exercises independent judgment, and attends evening Board of Selectmen meetings and prepares the minutes.

The work requires thorough knowledge of Town policies, practices and procedures; knowledge of the rules and regulations for permits and licenses; and extensive written and oral communications between the Executive Director's office and the Selectmen, other departments and boards, agencies, vendors, contractors, and the general public.  The anticipated hiring range is $51,000 to $63,000.

Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; five to seven years of experience as an executive secretary, or its equivalent; ability to work independently and prioritize workflow; excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent time management/organizational skills; ability to maintain detailed financial records and to maintain confidentiality; and computer literacy Microsoft Office.

**  SENIOR PLANNER  **

The Senior Planner supports the Planning Director in carrying out municipal planning, zoning and subdivision programs under the provisions of state law and the Town of Wellesley Bylaws.  The incumbent performs a variety of complex technical and professional work in the current and long range planning of the Town, including the development and implementation of land use policies and regulations; assisting the Director in staff and consultant supervision; providing staff support for the Planning Board, Design Review Board, Historic District Commission, Historical Commission, and Denton Road Neighborhood Conservation District Commission; and serving as the department head in the Director’s absence.

The work requires frequent contact with multiple constituencies and the ability to discuss issues, provide information and technical assistance, and explain regulations and Departmental policies clearly and courteously, even in contentious situations.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field, and a minimum of three years of planning experience; advanced degrees may substitute for a portion of municipal planning experience.  Also required are working knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal planning; knowledge of Massachusetts municipal planning, zoning and subdivision laws and regulations and of Massachusetts procurement law and contract management; the ability to acquire working knowledge of the Town’s General Bylaws and Zoning Bylaws; the ability to interact effectively with the general public and strong verbal and oral communication skills; and a valid driver’s license.  The anticipated hiring range is $60,000 - $72,000.

**  PART-TIME PLANNER  **

The Town of Wellesley Planning Department is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time (17.5 hours/week) Planner position.  The Planning Department is responsible for various work related to the long-range and current planning of the Town, as well as the administration of zoning and land use regulations.  Through this work, the staff of the Planning Department provides service directly to the Town’s Planning Board, Design Review Board, Historic District Commission, Historical Commission, and Denton Road Neighborhood District Commission, and works with various other Town boards on related work.

The selected candidate will be expected to be responsible for one or more of the various tasks for which the Department is responsible, with responsibilities evolving and changing over time to meet the demands of the Department and serviced boards.  Attendance at one evening/night meeting a week may be necessary.

                **  SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS  **

Excellent opportunity for individuals concerned about the safety of children.  The Town of Wellesley is currently looking to hire School Crossing Guards.  We are seeking dependable individuals to assure the safety of school children crossing the streets as they go to and from school. ** SEASONAL FACILITIES STAFF **  

The Town of Wellesley recognizes the need to provide outstanding maintenance and operation services in its school and town buildings through its Facilities Maintenance Department (FMD). The FMD manages twenty buildings totaling over a million square feet, with a staff of 68 and an operating budget of over $7 million, plus a major capital projects budget.  The Town seeks outstanding candidates who are hard-working, ambitious, and committed to working in a team environment.

Presently we are seeking individuals to assist our custodial staff in summer cleaning of schools.  We are seeking hard working candidates that can follow verbal & written directions, work independently and possess a strong work ethic.  Positions may start as early as June 21st (must be able to start no later than July 5th) and last until late August.  Individuals must be able to work a minimum eight week period. Full time seasonal work is available, no weekend or holiday hours are required and candidates must be least 16 years old to apply.  All work is conducted between the hours of 6:30am and 3:00pm, Monday through Friday and the hourly rate is $12.00/hour for new hires.  Preference is given to Wellesley residents. ** SEASONAL GARDENING ASSISTANT **

        The Wellesley D.P.W. Park & Tree Division is responsible for maintaining the town athletic fields, playgrounds, parklands, conservation areas, public shade trees, open spaces and the landscapes surrounding town buildings.  

        Presently we are seeking individuals who like to work outdoors in all weather conditions, can follow verbal & written directions, can work independently and possess a strong work ethic. Work responsibilities include regular hand weeding, removal of invasive plants, weed trimming of brick walkways, pruning, planting, watering, litter pick-up and emptying of trash barrels as needed.

        Full-time and part-time work are available Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7am to 3pm. No weekend or holiday work required. Rate of pay is $11.00 to $15.00 hour depending on experience. Must be 18 years of age to operate power equipment.
