The Wellesley Friends of Recycling, Inc. is a citizens group that strives to have fun doing good things for the environment. F.O.R. traces its beginnings to over 30 years ago when recycling started in Wellesley. F.O.R. was formally incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in 1992 to provide a better way to encourage participation from the greater community. F.O.R. is dedicated to raising awareness in Wellesley and the world for the three Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
The Wellesley recycling operation provides many benefits to the town. The value of the recycling program to the town has exceeded $2.0M over the last 4 years. These dollars come from avoiding the cost of landfilling and hauling as well as from sales of recycled products. The town also benefits from the "Reusable" area where many residents feel good that their no-longer-wanted but still functional items are reused by other residents rather than being put into a landfill.
F.O.R. also provides citizen input to Wellesley RDF management at regular meetings. Please contact Kathy at 781-235-7600 x3345 with any questions about our meetings or volunteering at the Reusable Area. All are invited to attend our meetings at the Arnold room in the Wellesley Main Library. Meetings are held about once every other month on the first Wednesday of the month from 7:30 – 9:00PM. Remaining schedule for 2010: September and November.
