Planning Department Seeks Candidates for Planning Board

I Love Planning

We are seeking candidates to fill a vacant regular member position on the Planning Board. The Planning Board consists of five (5) regular members who are elected, along with one (1) Associate Member appointed by the Planning Board and Selectmen. Under the State Law, the Planning Board has the duty to “make careful studies of the resources, possibilities and needs of the town, particularly with respect to conditions injurious to the public health or otherwise in and about rented dwellings, and make plans for the development of the municipality, with special reference to proper housing of its inhabitants.” Within Wellesley, the Board carries out these duties through various long-range planning activities and the administration of land use regulations.

The term of the vacated position would expire in 2021, however, the appointed individual would be required to run for election at the next annual election in March 2018 to remain on the Board after that time. Individuals with an interest in all aspects of the current and long-term physical development and character of the Town are encouraged to apply. The Planning Board is particularly interested in seeking individuals with a background in design, such as architects, landscape architects or engineers. Interested candidates would be considered by both the Planning Board and the Board of Selectman, and nominations for election to fill the vacancy would be done at a joint meeting of both Boards.

Interested individuals should submit a cover letter and resume/CV to Lynda Schelling, Planning Department Secretary/Technical Administrator, atlschelling@wellesleyma.gov or Planning Department, 525 Washington Street, Wellesley, Massachusetts 02482. Please direct any questions to Michael Zehner, Planning Director, at mzehner@wellesleyma.gov or 781-431-1019 x2234.
